A home that is only in pre-foreclosure might not be available for sale just yet. When the house is in pre-foreclosure it means that the homeowner is behind in the mortgage payments by a few months but the house hasn’t officially gone into foreclosure yet. During the pre-foreclosure period a homeowner can still keep the home if they are able to catch up on the mortgage payments that are owed. You can sometimes get very good deals on pre-foreclosures because the mortgage holder will be motivated to sell the home before it goes into foreclosure but you also face the risk of losing the house if the homeowner is able to come up with the past due mortgage payments before the official foreclosure begins.

Take your time and be thorough with everything that you check out. It doesn’t matter where you get your foreclosure listing, online or offline, due diligence when looking for foreclosure listings is a must.
